About Us
The Simcoe Woodturners Guild was founded in early 2005 when a group of like-minded woodturners from Barrie and surrounds in Simcoe County in the province of Ontario, Canada met and discussed the formation of a guild. The inaugural meeting was held on 26th of March, 2005, with 18 woodturners attending. From this small beginning the guild membership has now grown to more than 50 with some of the founding members still included in this number.
The Simcoe Woodturners Guild meets in the evening of the second Tuesday of each month. Meetings start at 7:00PM and are usually finished by 10:00PM. The guild focus is on creating an environment in which skills can be learned and ideas shared. In this spirit a typical meeting consists of:
- a short guild business discussion
- a demonstration of woodturning or a topic related to woodturning by either a member or visiting demonstrator
- a “Show and Tell” table where members can display and discuss their recent projects - both the successes and the not so successful.
